Six Snopes ads in one afternoon, made by talking to Claude

No Canva, no designer, no code. I typed plain sentences, Claude did the data, the writing, the images, the videos and the uploads. Here is every step, with the exact words I typed so you can copy them.

6 ad formats 20 images 3 videos 6 Drive folders, DCT_112 to 117
Before you start

You only need three things

  1. Claude Code open. It is the window where you type to Claude. If you have never opened it, ask Lays to set it up with you once. After that you only type.
  2. Screenshots of your best ads, and roughly how much each one spent.
  3. The client's name. Claude already knows each client's rules (what we can and cannot say).
How to paste a screenshot into Claude
  1. Press Cmd + Ctrl + Shift + 4 at the same time.
  2. Drag a box around the ad. Nothing seems to happen, that is normal: the picture is now copied.
  3. Click in the Claude window and press Cmd + V. You will see [Image #1] appear. Done.

Pasted my 3 winning ads and asked what to make next

I pasted the three Snopes ads that were winning, said which one spent the most, and admitted I did not know which formats to pick.

Copy my words
These are the 3 ads that have been outperforming for Snopes recently. This one specifically is the best one, with 26k spent. The CPL is rising so I need to launch 5 new ads asap, all with this same angle, but I don't know which formats to pick. I guess all static?

You were right: make all five static. But don't make five copies of "We Got ItWrong". 3 minutes later, at 11:49 AM

Claude had opened the Snopes ad account, pulled 90 days of results, found that the cost per lead was rising because the best ad's budget had doubled (the ad itself was not tired), and proposed five formats on the same "we're sorry" angle.

Step 2

Asked for the words first, and pushed back

Changing words is free and fast, so I always asked for the text before any image. When it did not feel right, I just said what felt off.

Copy my words
Let's do the 3 headline variations of copy and the body of option 1 first, and then the rest.
Copy my words
I think the hooks need to be more apologetic.
Claude CodeSent Oct 6, 12:00 PM
i think the hooks needs to be more apologetic.
Here are three more apologetic headlines. Each one now says sorry outrightinstead of just owning a mistake: - A: WE'RE SORRY.- B: PLEASE FORGIVE US.- C: WE'RE SORRY. THIS ONE'S ON US. The body stays the same. All three read cleanly into it: ▎ For 30 years, you had to come to Snopes to check a rumor.▎▎ We waited for you to find us. That was our mistake.▎▎ Now the day's fact-checks come to you, in your inbox, every morning.▎▎ Catch the rumor before you share it. Subscribe free below. - A is the shortest and loudest. At two words it fills the top of the 1:1 frame, bigger than "WE GOT IT WRONG." does.- B is the biggest pattern break. A brand asking to be forgiven is unusual enough to stop the scroll.- C says sorry and takes the blame. It runs to two lines, about the same as 107's headline. I didn't use "WE OWE YOU AN APOLOGY," because that's GrowLetter's exactheadline in the same account. I also left out "Sorry. Our mistake.", which is109's. If one of these is right, I'll write ads 2–5 just as openly apologetic andrender ad 1's three headlines in 107's style.
✻ Baked for 15s · done 12:00 PM
Checked without being asked

Every line was checked against the Snopes rules (nothing political, never promise a true or false rating) and against the Snopes landing page. Claude even noticed the page now says 1,000,000+ readers.

Step 3 · Ad 1

Ad 1 done: three images in the winner's exact layout

I asked for the same layout as the $26,000 ad. Claude copied its font, red and spacing, and only changed the words. Then I sent the client's logo folder and asked for a different logo and the grey on top.

Copy my words
Can you do image 1? Same layout as 107, new confession. 1:1, black-to-grey gradient, red headline.

Claude CodeSent Oct 6, 12:07 PM
lets do the 3 creative variations first:

hook 1: WE HAVE A CONFESSION.
hook 2: SORRY IT TOOK US THIS LONG.
hook 3: LEASE FORGIVE US

body:

For 30 years, you had to come to Snopes to check a rumor.
We waited for you to find us. That was our mistake.

can you do the image 1. Same layout as 107, new confession. 1:1,
black-to-grey gradient, red headline. "WE HAVE A CONFESSION." The body keeps
107's beats: we waited for you to find us, so now the fact-checks come to
your inbox every morning, subscribe free before you share something
false. This is the safest of the five.
Claude worked through 10 steps: data, checks, files
I've made the three versions of ad 1. They're in~/Downloads/Snopes_apology_statics/: - Snopes_confession_V1_we-have-a-confession.png- Snopes_confession_V2_sorry-it-took-us-this-long.png- Snopes_confession_V3_please-forgive-us.png They're 1080×1080 and reuse 107's own background and logo. Only the headlineand body are new. To check the match, I first rebuilt "WE GOT IT WRONG" withthe same script and compared it against the live 107. The fonts, sizes, spacing and positions line up. The only visible difference is the words. What I changed or decided:- Hook 3: I took "LEASE FORGIVE US" as a typo and rendered "PLEASE FORGIVE US." with the full stop, to match the other two.- Line breaks: I set them by hand so each sentence ends on its own line ("We waited for you to find us." / "That was our mistake."). 107 breaks its lines the same way.- Apostrophes: straight ones ("day's"), the same as 107. … (answer continues)

Claude worked through 6 steps: data, checks, files
I've re-rendered all three with both changes. They're in~/Downloads/Snopes_apology_statics/, under the same three file names. - Logo: I used "Snopes Logo fb ad.png" from your folder: the black wordmark on a yellow card. I trimmed it closer to the wordmark, rounded the corners and centred it at the bottom. On the black bottom it's the brightest thing in the frame. The plain wordmark from the old versions would have disappeared there.- Background: I flipped 107's gradient, so it's now light grey at the top fading to black at the bottom. The headline, body and spacing haven't changed. The red headline now sits on grey rather than black, so it stands out a littleless than on 107. It still reads clearly at phone size. If you want it to popmore, I can make the top grey a shade darker. The earlier versions are in _v0_black-top_old-logo/ in case you want tocompare. Once you're happy with these, I'll move on to ad 2 (yellow version).

The only differences are the flat Snopes yellow background(#fbd458), near-black text (#1f1f1f) and the plain black wordmark logo. Ideleted the "SORRY WE'RE LATE." mockup. For launch, give each image its own ad set, the same as ad 1. Then everyheadline gets a black and a yellow version, and you can compare the twocolours directly. Next is ad 3, the newspaper correction notice. Shall I write its copy?
✻ Sautéed for 12s · done 12:21 PM
Step 5

Asked "where did this idea come from?" and got proof

Claude suggested a newspaper "Correction" ad. I asked where the idea came from, and it admitted it had made it up. So I asked for real ads like it and how long they ran. An ad that runs for weeks is usually making money.

Copy my words
Where did this reference come from?
Copy my words
Is there an ad with this journal format on Foreplay or Ad Library I could check?
Copy my words

Claude CodeSent Oct 6, 12:23 PM
where did this reference came from?
I came up with it. It isn't based on any ad in the account, the GrowLetterswipe file or a competitor ad. The idea is the standard newspaper correction notice. Papers like the NYT andthe Washington Post print corrections that open with "An earlier version ofthis article…" and often end with "We regret the error." I borrowed thatconvention because it's an apology in a fact-checker's own language. No ad inthe account has tested it. That makes it weaker on evidence than the others. The last existing number was DCT_111 (Review), in both Drive and Meta,so the new ones run DCT_112 to DCT_117: ┌─────┬────────────────────┬──────────────────────────────────────────────┐│ DCT │ Folder │ Files │├─────┼────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────┤│ 112 │ Apology static │ 3 PNGs: confession / took us this long / ││ │ black │ forgive us │├─────┼────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────┤│ 113 │ Apology static │ 3 PNGs, same headlines ││ │ yellow │ │├─────┼────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────┤│ 114 │ Newspaper │ 3 PNGs: we were wrong / we're sorry / made ││ │ correction │ you do the work │├─────┼────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────┤│ 115 │ Pen sync apology │ 3 MP4s: grandkids / group chat / dear family │├─────┼────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────┤│ 116 │ iPhone notes │ 5 PNGs (3 apology hooks + 2 "is HARD." ││ │ │ hooks) │├─────┼────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────┤│ 117 │ Calendar we're │ 3 PNGs, the evergreen versions │… (answer continues)

Remember these

Six habits that made it work

Talk like you talk to a designer

Plain sentences. Typos are fine. Claude understood "lease forgive us" was "Please forgive us".

One thing at a time

Copy first. Then one ad. Then the next. Small asks get better results than one giant ask.

Say what feels wrong

"More apologetic." "Too vague." "Doesn't hit the pain." You do not need the fix, only the feeling.

Ask "where did this come from?"

If an idea is new, ask for a real ad that proves it, and how long it ran.

Look before it ships

Open every image and watch every video yourself before it goes to the client. Your eyes come last.

Change your mind freely

I said "sorry, V1 was fine, V3 was the bad one" and Claude just swapped them back. Nothing breaks.

Words you will hear

Mini dictionary

CPLCost per lead: how much we pay for each new email signup. Lower is better.
Hook / headlineThe first big line people read. It decides if they stop scrolling.
BodyThe smaller text under the headline that explains the offer.
StaticAn ad that is a still picture (not a video).
1:1 and 9:16Square ads (feed) and tall phone-screen ads (stories and reels).
DCTOur numbering for each ad idea. Every new idea gets the next number.
SkillA ready-made recipe Claude follows, like /pen-sync-video. You call it by typing its name.
